Year 5

Warm greetings to families and students of Y5, 2024.

We recently had the Year 5 & 6 Cross Country. All the classes dressed up in a colour and it was great to see the support for one another! Congrats to all the children for participating!

The Year 5's were lucky enough to visit the Auckland Museum. We had an interesting session with a Museum expert about Volcanoes and also explored all around the Museum!

Our inquiry topic for Term 3 has been Volcanoes! We had a wonderful science rotation learning about Volcanic Rocks, Tectonic Plates, the Structure of the Earth, Viscosity and an Experiment!

A team of Year 5 and 6 students went to the Hockey Zone Day!

They started the day with a skills rotation and then played 3 games!

It was a great day!

Our Year 5's have been participating in a sports rotation where they have tried, Basketball, Rippa Rugby, Hockey and Football.

Water care

Our inquiry topic for Term One was 'The Water Cycle'.

We were lucky enough to have an expert from Water Care come in and teach us about water use, waste water, the treatment process of drinking water, water filtration and fresh water Invertebrates.

We also did some experiments and had a trip to the creek to test water.

E.O.T.C

Year 5 students participated in Education Outside The Classroom (E.O.T.C) for week 7.

We had a great, busy week where the children participated in a range of activities.

These included; Rock Climbing, Orienteering, Archery, Cooking, First Aid, Biking, Shelter Building, Stretcher Building. We also had a school trip to Tahuna Torea Nature Reserve!

All Year 5 students have had the opportunity to take part in the Puketāpapa Cycling Haven Initiative. They have learned about bike safety and been able to ride bikes. It had been great to see the children supporting and encouraging one another!
