Starting School for 5 Year Olds
For some children, transitioning from home and/or preschool to school can be difficult.
To make the transition to school smoother for both parents and children, all 5 year olds starting school in the following term, may come to a New Entrant Morning (9.00-10.20am) on the last Thursday of each term. In Term 4, we run the New Entrant Morning on Thursday of Week 8. Parents/Caregivers and their child come to school and meet all the other 5 year old children who will be starting school in the coming term. Families will be introduced to key staff, the children will participate in a typical class programme and have a tour of the school. Parents will also have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have about starting school at Mt Roskill Primary School.
The Thursday before the child starts school, the parent/caregiver is welcome to bring their child for another class visit. By the time your child starts school at MRPS, they will have visited their class, participated in a typical programme, met some of the children they will be placed with and in most instances, have met their classroom teacher.
Please support your child to transition well into school, by seeing the office staff for further information and to make arrangements for a class visit. Thank you.
